Eccl 12:11-12

Reading sub-par Christian devotional literature is like receiving a penny from a millionaire; its like getting wrapping paper for a Christmas present or even a blind man putting on a pair of glasses. These types of popular level books with little substance can often be detrimental to the Christian walk, even harmful to a new believer. Consider the false prophets of the Old Testament who only spoke to what the crown wanted to hear. But go beyond the sub-par. Strive for excellence in all truth. Don't settle for anything less than what brings glory to God and the Truth found in his Word.
